Frequently asked questions

Below is a list of information to help your learning experience.

How do I access my online course?

You can login or sign up to an account by going to https://redcross.app.axcelerate.com/learner/

What do I need to prepare for a virtual course?

So we can start on time, please make sure:

  • you’ve completed any required online learning beforehand, allow up to 2 hours for CPR and 2 – 4 hours for Provide First Aid.
  • the manikin kit you received after booking is set up and ready to use.
  • you test your video camera, microphone, speakers and have a stable internet connection 15 minutes prior.
  • the camera on the device you’re using captures the demonstration of the practical tasks including CPR on a manikin on the floor nearby.
Do I need to complete online learning before my in person course?

If your course involves blended learning (online and in person), you will need to complete the online learning prior to your in person session. Certificates can not be issued until all requirements have been met.

We recommend 2 – 4 hours to complete prior to attending in person. You can save your progress and complete at your own pace.

What do I need to bring to my in person course?

First aid and CPR courses include practical demonstrations and activities on the floor, so it’s advisable to wear comfortable clothing and you can bring a towel if you wish to support your knees.

For accredited courses (excluding blended and virtual learning), you will need your own smart device such as smart phone, tablet or laptop to have mobile data and be fully charged to complete an online multiple-choice quiz as part of your assessment. Some venues have wi-fi available.

Do you provide food and drinks?

No, though most of our venues have food facilities nearby. If you wish to bring your own food, we can’t guarantee the availability of kitchen facilities.

What do I need to know about parking & public transport?

Onsite parking is available at some locations and a number of other public car parks are also available within walking distance (fees may apply). Please refer to local transport companies timetables.

How long will it take to get my certificate?

You will receive your certificate after you have met the requirements for completing the course, such as finishing the assesment and providing your date of birth and USI number as required for accedited courses. If you haven’t received an email within 5 days, please contact us at learn@redcross.org.au or on 1800 733 276.

Can people under 18 do a first aid course?

Yes. As a minimum requirement, a parent/guardian is required to read the terms and conditions and provide consent when enrolling. We want as many people as possible to do first aid training and offer courses for all ages. We do not enforce a minimum age for our courses, but strongly recommend that anyone under 18 is accompanied by a parent/guardian, and we kindly request that anyone under the age of 14 is accompanied by a paying parent or guardian.

Be aware that whilst first aid training is appropriate for all ages, the training is targeted at adult education and our public training is predominately attended by adults. The training includes practical requirements which are often demonstrated by students in pairs or groups, and some of the activities can be physically demanding in nature. Some courses involve multiple choice assessments which are completed on devices.

Why does CPR have to be performed on the floor?

Nationally recognised first aid training requires that students must demonstrate at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single-rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) [5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations] on an adult manikin placed on the floor.

You’re welcome to bring a towel to support your knees. If you have additional support needs, please let us know before your course on 1800 733 276.

I'm breastfeeding/have a young child, can I bring my infant to the course?

We recommend that attendees arrange child-care/babysitting to allow attention on the course content. Otherwise, Red Cross trainers can make efforts to accommodate parents who have children present, such as breastfeeding mothers/caregivers, if they know in advance. Contact us to discuss on 1800 733 276.

What if I need to cancel or transfer my booking?

Please provide as much notice as possible if you need to change or cancel your booking. Fees may apply if adequate notice is not provided. More information on our fees and charges. To change your booking, you can contact 1800 733 276.
