22702VIC – Course in the Management of Asthma Risks and Emergencies
This asthma emergency management course is designed to establish the essential skills and underpinning knowledge necessary to assist a person suffering an emergency asthma attack until the arrival of medical assistance.
The course will give you the skills to:

recognise‚ treat and manage an asthma flare up

correctly use and assist a person with their asthma medication

develop risk minimisation plans, asthma policies and communication plans
Target Audience:
This course applies to workers who have a duty of care requirement and work in a wide range of settings where emergencies involving asthma episodes may occur. The worker’s duty of care requirement may be an industry, legislative and/or specific organisation/workplace requirement
Learning Outcomes:
- On successful completion of this course, students will be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for 22702VIC Course in the Management of Asthma Risks and Emergencies
Learning Methods:
Students will be assessed through the demonstration of practical skills‚ participation in role plays, analysis of case studies, and with a written test.

Content:
- Develop, review, and update risk assessment and emergency management strategies for individuals identified with asthma and those presenting with asthma-like signs and symptoms
- Recognise the signs and symptoms of an asthma episode
- Respond safely to an asthma episode with first aid principles and procedures
- Use different types of asthma equipment and devices for adults, children and infants/babies
