Who is collecting the information? Australian Red Cross Society Why does Red Cross need to collect this information? As a registered training organisation (RTO), we collect your personal information so we can process and manage your enrolment in a vocational education and training (VET) and/or non-accredited course. We need to collect this information so: 1. we know who is studying with Red Cross First Aid and Mental Health; 2. we can deliver our courses to you and provide certificates related to the course of study; and 3. we can respond to your feedback or complaints; 4. we can comply with our obligations as an RTO to collect this information for reporting purposes to State, Territory and Commonwealth government departments. Facts and circumstances of collection Your personal information is protected by law, including the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. Your personal information is generally collected directly from you. In some circumstances, Red Cross may receive personal information about you from your employer so that Red Cross can make services available to you. Is the collection being made because a law or Court order applies? We are required by law (under the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 (Cth) (NVETR Act)) to disclose the personal information we collect about you to the National VET Data Collection kept by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research Ltd (NCVER). The NCVER is responsible for collecting, managing, analysing and communicating research and statistics about the Australian VET Sector. We are also authorised by law to disclose your personal information to the relevant state or territory training authority. It may also be a legal requirement under training laws and standards that Red Cross apply for a Unique Student Identifier (USI) on your behalf. To do this we will need to photocopy your relevant identity document. Information collected by Red Cross in relation to your USI will be destroyed after the USI is obtained. The purpose for which the information is being collected The primary purpose of collecting this information is for us to deliver VET and/or non-accredited courses to you, and to comply with our obligations as an RTO. Red Cross may also use or disclose this information so we can issue you a digital credential via an application. How we disclose your personal information We disclose your personal information to the relevant State, Territory and Commonwealth authorities who require information about you and your progress through training and the allocation of a Unique Student Identifier.
