HLTAID004R - Provide an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education & Care Setting Refresher  

Introduction:

This refresher course for teachers and carers provides the skills and knowledge required to deliver a first aid response and life support as well as the management of casualties, the incident and other first aiders in a range of situations in education and care settings.

The unit applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies. The course may contribute towards approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulations (2011).

Target Audience:

Childcare workers, educators and support staff working within an education and care setting. Also suitable for parents wanting child-focused, comprehensive, accredited first aid training.

This unit of competency may contribute towards approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulations (2011).

Specific licensing requirements, including requirements for refresher training, should be obtained from the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) and/or relevant state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authority.

Learning Outcomes:

  • On successful completion of this course students will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment
  • Units of Competency: HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, HLTAID002 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support, HLTAID003 Provide First Aid, HLTAID004 Provide an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education & Care Setting

Learning Methods:

Demonstration of practical skills, participation in role-plays, analysis of case studies and a theory assessment.

Please note it is a requirement of this course that practical demonstration of CPR must be performed on the adult manikin on the floor.
